New older children's play space in Canbury Gardens

Closes 5 Jun 2025

Opened 23 Apr 2025

Overview

As part of our ongoing work to improve and enhance our green spaces, we are investing in a brand new play area for older children in Canbury Gardens. This exciting addition will significantly enhance the play provision for children aged 8 and above, offering a variety of equipment suitable for all abilities.

We want to design this brand new play space together with the community. Please share your thoughts on two initial design concept options for the new playground, which is proposed to be built next to the existing playground and near the tennis courts.

Your feedback will play an important role in ensuring that, wherever possible, the final space reflects the needs, preferences, and aspirations of those who will use it most.

Once this engagement closes on 5 June 2025, the team will consider all feedback received and shape the design. An updated plan will be shared for any final thoughts this summer. Once we have an agreed design, we will start the commissioning process to invite bids to construct the playground. It is hoped that the new play space will open in early summer 2026.

The creation of a dedicated play space for older children is part of the masterplan to protect and enhance Canbury Gardens which was developed following extensive engagement with local people and organisations and endorsed by the council in 2021.
