South Lane Old Malden Zebra Crossing Proposal
Overview
Our vision is to create a cleaner, greener Kingston, and our streets play a major role in achieving this. We want everyone to feel that our streets are places where they can breathe clean air, walk safely, and feel connected to the local community.
Thank you to all residents who took the time to respond to our previous consultation regarding the proposal for a new zebra crossing on South Lane, near the junction with Millais Road. We greatly appreciate the valuable feedback received. Following further discussions with local ward councillors, and after considering comments from residents, the initial proposal has been withdrawn.
However, there remains a need for a safer crossing facility, and we have now identified an alternative location for a new proposal.
We would like to hear your views on introducing a new zebra crossing on South Lane, outside House no 243, by converting the existing informal crossing point into a formal crossing point.
This area is a vital route for many, and the introduction of a formal crossing would help reinforce the existing 20mph speed limit and support further speed reduction. It may also encourage residents and parents to walk or cycle, leading to reduced congestion and a safer environment in the area.
We will review all of the feedback and prepare a report with recommendations for the next steps. This report will go to the New and Old Malden Neighbourhood Committee for consideration and decision.
We look forward to receiving your comments on this revised proposal.
