Arts regeneration of Springfield Blue Bridge

Closes 17 Dec 2025

Opened 7 Nov 2025

Overview

We’re inviting local residents, students, and community members to help co-design the transformation of Springfield Blue Bridge.

Built between 1880 and 1896, Springfield “Blue” Bridge is part of Kingston’s industrial heritage and an important walking and cycling route connecting Kingston town centre, Surbiton, Berrylands, and the Kingston University campuses.

Although it’s no longer open to vehicles, the bridge remains a vital link and now we’re transforming it into a welcoming new public space for art, play, and community activity.

This arts-led regeneration project, funded through Kingston Council’s Neighbourhood Community Infrastructure Levy (NCIL), is being delivered by the Kingston Council in partnership with Kingston School of Art.

What we’re creating

A refreshed Springfield Bridge that offers:

  • A space for play, gatherings, and community events
  • Opportunities for temporary art installations and education
  • Improved active travel routes and accessibility
  • A new amenity for local residents, students, and visitors

How to get involved

You can get involved in two ways:

  • Stakeholder Leads – help set the vision and objectives for the project, and guide the design process.
  • Creative Participants – work directly with artists from Kingston School of Art to shape ideas and develop design concepts.

Workshops will take place in November and December 2025 at the Richard Mayo Centre, Kingston.

Participants must be 16+ years old.
