Textiles Bank Trial

Closes 30 Apr 2026

Opened 31 Oct 2025

Overview

We are pleased to announce our partnership with Traid - a London based charity who address global social and environmental issues within the textiles industry through their work recycling clothes and other textiles.

Helping to create a greener borough for current and future generations is a key priority for Kingston Council.

One of the ways we are working toward this involves making it easier for people to recycle more and waste less, which is why we are looking at a six month trial of Traid Textile Banks across seven housing estates in Kingston.

Residents will be able to use the 'banks' to deposit all types of textiles that they would normally have to take to charity shops or the tip.  You don't even have to put your textiles in a bag, just drop them straight into the secure 'drawer' at the front of the bank.

When does the trial start and finish

The banks will be put into location during November 2025 and reviews will happen in May 2026.

The estates involved in the first trial are:

  • Alpha Road Estate
  • Blakes Lane Estate
  • Kingsnympton Park Estate
  • Ripon Gardens
  • Penryhn Gardens
  • School Lane Estate
  • South Lane Estate

Where on the estate will the banks be located

All the banks will be located besides the bins on the estate. View the map of textile bank locations here.

More Information on the textiles bank trial

How will it work

Traid will collect all the textiles once a week. They will sell reusable goods in their charity shops, other items will be recycled within the UK.

What happens if the bank is full or if there are items left beside it

If you notice any dumped items beside the bin, please report the fly-tipping so that it can be removed.

If you notice the bank is full or damaged, please call 02087332582 or email info@traid.org.uk.

We would like to hear your views about us installing textile banks to make recycling more accessible for all.

If you need any of the information in a different format, please get in touch with us via phone: 020 8547 5000, or email engagement@kingston.gov.uk.
