What are the trial street changes?

From 28 September 2026, an experimental traffic management scheme will be introduced on Manorgate Road and Wolverton Avenue. The trial will effectively make the two roads one-way in opposite directions for through traffic. While traffic will be able to enter and leave from both directions, access will be limited to one way at the existing width restrictions on both roads - depending on direction of entry. 

This trial scheme has been designed to address residents’ concerns about how these narrow residential roads, which are currently being used to cut through from Kingston Hill to Coombe Road and vice versa and with vehicles travelling at unsafe speeds.

The trial will be introduced through an experimental traffic management order (ETMO), which will be in place for a minimum of 6 months, and potentially up to 18 months, while we gather local feedback and monitor the scheme. The changes to the road system are as follows;

Manorgate Road between Coombe Road and Kingston Hill 

• There will be no through traffic for vehicles entering Wolverton Avenue from Coombe Road and wanting to exit onto Kingston Hill. 
• No through route will be enforced at the existing width restriction by house no.33b for traffic travelling towards Kingston Hill. 
• Traffic travelling from Kingston Hill will have through access to Coombe Road.

Wolverton Avenue between Kingston Hill and Coombe Road

• There will be no through traffic for vehicles entering Wolverton Avenue from Coombe Road and wanting to exit onto Kingston Hill. 
• No through route will be enforced at the existing width restriction by house no.33b for traffic travelling towards Kingston Hill. 
• Traffic travelling from Kingston Hill will have through access to Coombe Road.

These restrictions do not apply to cyclists, who are permitted to travel in both directions on both roads. Enforcement of the restriction will be by Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) camera. 

This change will be implemented on 28 September 2026. The engagement and consultation process will launch on the same date as the implementation.
