Consumer Standards for Kingston Social Housing Tenants and Leaseholders Consultation
Overview
Social housing landlords must meet ‘consumer standards’ set by the Regulator of Social Housing which cover things like making sure tenants get quality accommodation, have choice and protection, and can hold their landlords to account.
This survey is being conducted by Kingston Council to guage the views to these standards within our borough of Kingston.
Why your views matter
On 25th July 2023, the Regulator published a consultation on a new set of proposed consumer standards and a code of practice on those standards. They are expected to come into force from April 2024 and will replace the existing consumer standards. They are expected to come into force from April 2024 and will replace the existing consumer standards. The key changes include being able:
-
To be safe in your home
-
To know how your landlord is performing
-
To have your complaints dealt with promptly and fairly
-
To be treated with respect, backed by a strong consumer regulator for tenants
-
To have your voice heard by your landlord
-
To have a good quality home and neighbourhood to live in
-
To be supported to take your first step to ownership
This will be embedded in law through the Social Housing Regulation Bill. This will change the powers and the remit of the regulator, including setting new consumer standards and stronger enforcement and inspection powers.
