Business ratepayers' consultation on Kingston Council's proposed 2024/2025 budget

Closed 21 Feb 2024

Opened 29 Jan 2024

Overview

We charge business rates on most non-domestic properties, such as shops, offices and warehouses. This is one of the main ways in which local government is financed. The council keeps 30% of the amount payable, pays 33% to central government and 37% to the Greater London Authority.

The retained 30%, together with revenue from council tax, locally generated income and grants provided by the Government, is used to pay for the services provided by the council. This includes support for vulnerable adults and children, community housing, street lighting, waste collection and maintaining public parks.

We are currently in a budget setting process for 2024/25. As a local business we are keen to hear from you on our proposed budget for 2024/25.

For more information take a look at the council’s 2024/25 budget report

Please take part in our consultation and let us know your feedback by 21 February 2024.

What’s next for the 2024/25 budget

The full budget proposals will be presented and discussed at:

  • People Committee on 6 February 2024
  • Place Committee on 8 February 2024
  • Corporate and Resources Committee on 20 February 2024
  • Budget Council on 29 February 2024

All committees start at 7.30pm and can be watched online at kingston public i tv

Along with most councils across the country, we are facing a huge challenge to find money to deliver current services. More people are struggling and need help as costs continue to rise.

At the bottom of this page are links to the Budget Report and supporting documents, including our website where you will find a Budget Planning booklet which sets out the context, pressures and proposed budget for 2024/2025 and our Council Plan
