Call for sites - land for Gypsy and Traveller use

Overview

As part of our duty to identify enough housing land for everyone in the borough, we want to hear from anybody who would like to suggest sites for Gypsy and Traveller use. We are therefore asking individuals, landowners or developers to suggest local sites which might be available and suitable for pitches. You do not need to own the site to make a site submission.

Sites should meet the following criteria:

• Be wholly within the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames
• Have a minimum site size of 0.25 hectares

To submit a site, please complete the online submission form below or download the form at the bottom of this page and email it to localplan@kingston.gov.uk. If possible please include a PDF site location plan, with the boundary shown in red, with your submission.

The Call for Sites will run until 3 November 2023.

What information are we asking to be submitted?

If you know of or own a site, the information we’d like to know is: 

• Site address/location – if possible include a location map clearly outlining the proposed site boundaries in red
• Site size
• Land ownership and current use
• Any current site constraints that may affect delivery (e.g. vehicle access, connections to utilities, infrastructure, legal covenants, ransom strips, financial viability, etc.) and the likelihood of those issues being resolved
• Current availability or anticipated timescales for when you think the site would become available for development (e.g. in the next five years)
• Other information that may be relevant to the potential delivery of the site

Why your views matter

We have carried out a Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Needs Assessment which has highlighted that we need to provide more pitches that are suitable for members of our borough's Gypsy and Traveller communities in the future. While a few sites have previously been suggested, they may not be enough to meet local needs. 

All sites suggested to us will be carefully considered as part of the preparation of our new Local Plan.

What happens next
